Employ digital photography as the media, curdled the vision inside the mind, the memory of city living could be deposited exactly. Using traditional ink paintings to deal with images, this intervention makes the pretermission of memories more accord with human nature. But video, timeline-edits, the sequence of? images becomes the response of memory, and the sound connects each of the moments together.
"Ink City" had been created in a way of : "photography - drawing - video". It is: the numeral-technique-recording - handcrafted copy and filtrate - timeline edits and sounds.? The process of production is the transformation of real material and again, as shelling off the skin of one object, and then the flesh, until only the bones are left. Through those three media, shelling off the reality from a personal? memory, extending the depths of knowledge and feeling to one object.
When showing "ink city" as a video, it is the end of a way, yet a start of a new one, it is going back to the yearn of reality, no matter if drawing, or photography, or even the object which had been taken. So it reverts to nonego with a new form----the crowded noise of a city.
In this work, it withdraws the narrative and just leaves impressions of the city, there is no logical relationship connection, also no non-logical imago, it is just the connection of each moment in memory. It spend me more than one year, to gather the bits and pieces of the idea, which can be found everywhere. Without seeking for purposes, because i believe in "yuan fen"( lucky chance; lot of luck by which people are brought together; predestined relationship ), the "yuan fen" which makes the view and object getting into my sight, and also the "yuan fen", in what time, if the camera is inside my hands or not.
“Ink City” is to translate photographs into ink painting and then make it into video, After this process, people’s feeling towards city life permeates the work naturally, As this video adopts this observation method ,what it records become single moment, just like the discontinuous memory of this city.
